Nikki Sinclaire MEP says Councils reaction to Protest Camp is Innappropriate and Unreasonable


West Midlands Independent MEP, Nikki Sinclaire has hit out at Solihull Councils insistence that the protesters in Meriden should dismantle their protest camp almost one year than the perpetrators of the unlawful occupation of green belt land have to vacate.


Ms Sinclaire said "This is double standards by Solihull Council and a slap in the face to ordinary, law abiding local residents - the councils handling of this protest against inappropriate development on green belt in itself inappropriate and unreasonable."


Ms Sinclaire who sits on the EU's Human Rights Committee has long been a critic of the European Human Rights laws that create situations like this and she has repeatedly called for "equal rights not special rights."


Nikki has promised to stand shoulder to shoulder with the local residents on this matter commenting. "it is in our national heritage to be able to peaceably protest - and that's what I will stand up for"

Speech in Strasbourg: No to the European Human Rights Law

As an MEP I deal with constituency issues on a daily basis; issues where EU law affects their daily lives either directly or indirectly.

I am here today to tell you that there is one deeply flawed law that above all others, damages British life and put our lives in daily peril.

It is the Human Rights Act. It is a rotten law that Britain loathes

Human Rights are worth protecting.

 I am vocal in the protection of Human Rights.

The Human Rights Act was created in Britain by the Labour Party who despite warnings were reckless as to the consequences.

However, this EU-backed, and now soon to be enshrined law is now routinely and regularly abused by those who cause havoc in civil society: terrorists, criminals and illegal immigrants.

More often than not judges whom apply Human Rights Law decide that those rights trump those of the majority decent, honest hard-working British people. 

The case of Abu Qatada is attracting media attention. Human Rights Law, by allowing Qatada to dodge deportation to Jordan, has inflamed the British public.

Simply, the Court of Human Rights leaves Britain unable to defend its interests. In a recent survey, 75% of British people think that the Act should be scrapped all together.

It is the Lisbon Treaty that allows the EU to sign up to the ECHR which further imprisons the British public who never got a chance to say no by referenda.

New Gypsy sites infringe human rights

LOCAL EURO MEP Nikki Sinclaire has slammed Solihull Councils plans for more Gypsy sites as a waste of taxpayers money and an infringement of the human rights of the settled community.  She said that she supported Gypsy and Traveller housing needs but that the process used by Solihull Council was causing misery and housing blight and is a 'sledgehammer to crack a nut'

 

Nikki focused on suggested Solihull locations at Hockley Heath, Balsall Common and Eaves Green Lane) as being hugely inappropriate attempts to force development in the Green Belt using 'Europe inspired political correctness' over traveller provision and said 'If Europe wants to dictate to us about the rights of Travellers they should also remember the rights of the settled community under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights where 

 

1. Everyone has the right to respect for his private and family life, his home and his correspondence.

2. There shall be no interference by a public authority with the exercise of this right except such as is in accordance with the law and is necessary in a democratic society in the interests of national security, public safety or the economic well-being of the country, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, or for the protection of the rights and freedoms of others.

 

She added 'Solihull Council is a willing accomplis on the contravention of these rights and is using a 'sledge hammer to crack a nut'.  They should use a strategy of evolutionary growth at tolerated sites in the Borough and (b) put in place checks and safeguards to ensure that Gypsy and traveller NEED is distinguished from the activities of Gypsy and travellers developers who are simply using the cloak of human rights and ethnic minority status to try to force residential and commercial development in the greenbelt for profit - as has been seen at the Eaves Green Lane site in Meriden - which has so incensed local residents'

Prescot still causing trouble

Today I visited Barnacle, a small hamlet in Warwickshire. This village like Meridan has been a victim of innappropraite development by so called gypsies/travellers. The law abiding residents are victims of positive discrimination at the hands of europhile jurisprudence via its favorite vehicle, the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

It was the ECHR that inspired former Deputy Prime Minister, John Prescott to issue circular 2006/1 to local authrorities across the country. This circular allows gypsies to develop property on protected Green Belt land. The coalition government have announced that it will revoke this guideline. That was a month ago and still nothing has been done. I have written to Eric Pickles demanding an explanation.

Earlier today  I met with villagers and their local MP, Mark Pawsey and together we delivered letters of protest to the Deputy Leader of Rugby Council.

Middle England protest in Strasbourg

This week I sponsored over 30 residents from Meriden (The middle of England) to visit and protest and the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Both the BBC and ITV filmed the protest.

These people were victims of discrimination and have suffered since early May this year when their lives were disrupted by an inappropriate development on protected Green Belt land by travellers.

Thanks to the EU, the ECHR and its jurisprudence the law in framed to the advantage of the travellers some of whom seem intent on abusing the system for profit.

As I constantly point out to social law loving Europhiles; positive discrimination is wrong, it is as wrong as any other form of discrimination and it also has victims.

These people from Meriden have stood up to this injustice and have held a continuous 24 hour manned camp to prevent any further damage to the Green Belt. These are ordinary law abiding people who it has been a privilege to get to know around the camp fire at all times of the day. Their dedication to their cause has renewed my faith in local direct politics.

They certainly frightened the European Parliament security that pedantically would not let them wear their t-shirts and caps (spelling out their protest) into the Parliament.   Eventually they got into the parliament.  Their message was simple 'Equal Rights not special rights'. We delivered a letter to President Jerzy Buzek and also to the ECHR.
