Saying goodbye to St. George's Lane

Saturday 27th May marked the final ever game at Worcester City Football Clubs ground - St. George's Lane.

I was a match ball sponsor on the day, and I was asked for a piece for the commerative programme.

 Although the final game ended in a 1-0 loss for City, it was still a fantastic day.

The lane was filled with over 4000 people and the ground looked fantastic on its final showing.


 

This is not the end for Worcester City, and this simply heralds a new era for the club.

I was at last nights Worcester City VS Bishops Stortford match where Worcester won 2-0. Worcester are looking fantastic at the moment, I hope they can keep it up.

My new advertisement board is now up at the club in the goal so it is extra prominent.

A night at Worcester City

We've been treated in the Midlands this week to an appearance by the sun - yes that big yellow thing in the sky. I made my way to Worcester City's pre season fixture against a very strong Aston Villa reserve side last night.

Worcester beat their visitors 3-2, and it was a thrilling match to watch. The signs look good for Worcester City in pre-season at least, and I'm hoping that this will foreshadow a fantastic season for the Blue Square North club.

An evening at Burton Albion

After a busy day in Birmingham and Coventry yesterday, I spent the evening at Burton Albion FC. Burton Albion is one of the clubs where I have sponsored a player, in this case Danny Blanchett. Here is a photo of the player sponsorship in the programme:

The match ended 1-0 to Burton, which is the first win for the Brewers for quite a while.

Other good results for my teams across the Midlands included a win for Worcester who are making a late charge for the promotion places whilst Walsall beat Colchester 3-1.

HAT TRICK OF SPONSORSHIPS FOR MIDLANDS MEP

Tonight’s matchup between Worcester City FC and Histon will once again be sponsored by football mad European Politician.

Ms Sinclaire, who is one of 7 MEPs for the West Midlands region, has embarked on a football sponsorship programme this season which has seen her sponsor 14 players from across her region. Her sponsorship has branched out to match ball and game sponsorships, and Nikki is making her third visit to St Georges Lane tonight.

Nikki is paying for her whole football sponsorship scheme out of her own salary, and is delighted to be working with the various local clubs, “Football is one of the bedrocks of our community and engages people of all ages. I think this is a worthwhile endeavour and wish all the West Midlands clubs success for the forthcoming season”.

Nikki is sponsoring Simon Brown of Worcester City this season. She has previously sponsored the home ties Worcester vs Solihull Moors and Worcester vs Colwyn Bay.

Sponsoring Worcester City FC

After a hectic week in Strasbourg, I drove back Thursday to get back into my Birmingham office on Friday. Friday is a day of catching up with paper work and getting back into UK time.

My weekend is also busy! With Liverpool not being at home this weekend, I am sponsoring local team Worcester City this weekend.

Worcester City play at St. Georges Lane in Worcester and this is my third visit to the Lane this season. The first visit was on a sponsors evening, where I watched Worcester City take on over 50 children in a match – I’ve never seen so many children trying to claim a goal before! It is where I had my picture taken with the Worcester City first team.

My second visit to the Lane came back in September when I sponsored the Worcester City vs Solihull Moors match, where Worcester came out 3-0 winners.

Tomorrow I sponsor the match against Colwyn Bay FC. Worcester City are currently 8^th in the Blue Square North, whilst Colwyn Bay are just 2 points behind them in 9^th.

As a Liverpool fan I feel an affinity with Worcester City football club. Worcester City beat Liverpool in the 1958-1959 FA Cup, and shortly after this defeat Bill Shankley was appointed as manager. This lead to the reshaping of Liverpool football club, and we know the successes Liverpool have enjoyed since.  

Football unites people from all sectors of society, and my football sponsorship scheme I hope has helped some of those clubs who do need the extra financial support. I've paid for all my sponsorships out of my own cash and I get a real buzz out of my local teams doing well. Last time I watched Worcester, Simon Brown who is my sponsored player, had a fantastic game - more of the same please.
