Voice of the People Demand a Referendum

Press Release
Second 100,000 petition calling for an EU Referendum to be delivered to No. 10

The campaign for a referendum on Britain's EU membership is given a double boost this week.

A petition demanding a straight "in or out" vote has now attracted more than 100,000 signatures - which should be enough to force a Commons debate. These signatures `The Voice of the People` will be handed into Downing Street by a delegation led By Nikki Sinclaire MEP and Former Apprentice star and Businesswoman Katie Hopkins

The breakthrough is bolstered by a new YouGov poll which reveals a clear majority (56%) want ordinary people to have the final say on whether we pull out.

The mountain of signatures has been collected in a cross-party campaign led by West Midlands MEP Nikki Sinclaire and it is the second 100,000 plus petition to be handed in within a year.

It will pile pressure on the Prime Minister to hold the first referendum on Europe since 1975. The YouGov poll shows 65% of Conservative voters want a referendum

Nikki Sinclaire, an Indepenent MEP, said "This is an encouraging development and raises the prospect of an early debate on our continued membership of the EU - Almost six in ten people want a national debate on the pros and cons of EU membership"

Nikki, added: "Clearly the people of Britain want to decide who governs Britain. It must be alarming to the government that despite all their assurances on sovereignty and cast iron promises, more and more people have given up on this European project. This argument has gone on far too long, we must decide our course once and for all in a binding referendum"

Katie Hopkins says "We work hard, pay our taxes, abide by the laws of the country, and fulfil our obligations as voters. Yet, we still have not earned the right to a say. Despite this is an organisation that has a very loud voice in our affairs, and has the right to impose a range of laws and regulations on the UK. This cannot be right. It is about time to let the people decide!"

Nikki also pays tribute to the hundreds of people across the country who have helped collate the petition and said the politicians ignore the will of the people at their peril"

Survey Says 'UK Demands Referendum on Europe!'

PRESS RELEASE

September 9 2012

OUR SURVEY SAYS: UK DEMANDS REFERENDUM ON EUROPE!

MOST adults say they would welcome a referendum on whether or not the UK should be in or out of Europe, according to a poll conducted by YouGov. The Poll also shows the distrust the electorate have for politician’s when it comes to acting in the UK’s best interests in the European Union.

71% of those polled by YouGov expressed a view that they have not much or no trust at all.

The survey, commissioned by Nikki Sinclaire MEP/Campaign for a Referendum, outlines a groundswell of opinion over the country’s future in the EU.

The poll discovered that a massive 56% of adults surveyed said they would welcome a referendum, whereas a mere 28% said they would not call for such a move.

The new figure shows that there are now double the amount of people who want a referendum compared to those who do not.

The YouGov poll shows that 65% of those who intend to vote Conservative thinks there should be a referendum.

The news comes just days ahead of the delivery of a petition to Prime Minister David Cameron by West Midlands MEP Nikki Sinclaire.

It contains the signatures of more than 100,000 people demanding a referendum on Europe. Almost a year ago the Campaign for a Referendum collected 120,000 names, sparking a near-rebellion as 79 Conservative MPs turned against party whips.

Nikki Sinclaire said, “The figures speak for themselves. People across the nation are calling for a referendum. This is the most important issue this country faces –isn’t it about time that we let the people decide?”

Joining Nikki Sinclaire at Downing Street this week will be George Hargreaves, who was a prominent member of Jimmy Goldsmiths Referendum Party, and former Apprentice star and businesswoman Katie Hopkins.

Katie Hopkins said “Six out of ten people want a referendum, why are our elected politicians not taking notice?”
