Food bank collection in Chelmsley Wood this Monday!

Delivering donations to food banks

The team will be at the ASDA store in Chelmsley Wood on Monday (24th June). Chelmsley store is where we kicked off our debt booklet campaign and we're very grateful that they are allowing us to come back, this time to collect for local food banks.

Last year, 500,000 people relied on food banks to eat. I think that is staggering. We can't feed our own people yet we pay £53 million A DAY to be a part of the EU.

The team will be in the Chelmsley store from 10am onwards.

Food Banks in the Leek and Cheadle Times

Taken from the Leek and Cheadle Times newspaper:

A TEAM from the office of West Midlands MEP Nikki Sinclaire spent all last Wednesday collecting donations for local food banks at Cheadle’s ASDA store.
The MEP has been raising debt awareness and organising collections for food banks for a number of months, and the next stop on her food collection tour was the Moorlands store.

Nikki said: “Research last month shows that 500,000 people across the UK last year used a food bank to eat.

“Food banks are doing vital work in the West Midlands to feed families at a time when they may need a bit extra support. I know the difference it makes to people’s lives”.

The, We Demand a Referendum Now MEP, added: “Its amazing that we now pay £53 million a day to the European Union, while we cannot afford to feed people in our own country.”

Delivering food donations to Bethel Church, Stoke on Trent

Today I made the visit to Bethel Church food bank, which is located in Stoke on Trent. They are part of the Trussell Trust food bank network.

My team have been collecting for food banks across the region.

Today we delivered a variety of goods to the food bank, such as pasta sauce and cereals. The food bank is manned by fantastic volunteers who told me what they were most in need of in terms of donations. In the Staffordshire area, they are particularly short of tinned meat and fish and various cooking sauces.

Whilst at the centre, we discussed my "Money Matters, and so does debt" booklet which is packed full of free advice and points people in the direction of services that can help them.

Well done to everybody who helps in some way at Bethel Church food bank - the work you are doing for your local community is simply fantastic and admirable.

EDIT:

Last night we received a wonderful message from the Stoke on Trent food banks:

"Thank you Nikki, I've heard that the volunteers that met you were very impressed, they say you were a lovely lady. Would it be possible to link us on your blog?".

Ladywood Food Bank

I've been at Ladywood food bank this morning dropping off a foodonation and taking time to speak to Heart FM about the need for food banks, as well as the budget which will be announced shortly.

My team have collected and distributed nearly a tonne of food so far.

It is simply incredible that while we give over £50 million to the EU each day, our own people cannot afford to feed themselves.

I will continue to support food banks and the vital work they do.

My interview is below:

Overwhelmed by food bank donations

The team are absolutely overwhelmed today by the kindness shown by shoppers at Leamington Asda today!

The team spent the day distributing the debt booklets, as well as highlighting the need for donations to local food banks - Well the people of Leamington listened!

This food will be given to the local food bank distribution centre where it will be given to those who need the support of the food bank system.

Once again thank you to everybody who took a leaflet or booklet today and gave a donation.

Thanks to ASDA for letting us hold the debt surgery and collect for food banks
