Mobile surgery in Hereford today
My team and I have had a fantastic day in Hereford with the mobile surgery talking about my role as an MEP, and why I am demanding a referendum.
What came over strongly to me today was the desire for people to debate this topic. We all want to know the facts about EU membership so we can debate the issue, then take it to a decisive In or Out referendum.
The people of Hereford are tired of politicians using a referendum as a political point scorer - they want real action now!
Thank you to everybody who took the time to debate the subject or even just say hi.

Mobile surgery in Solihull today
Despite the weather not being on our side, the team have received a warm welcome today in chilly Solihull.
The people of this country have seen right through David Cameron's EU speech and referendum pledge.
No ifs or buts. No vote grabbing. We Demand a Referendum - this is an issue beyond party politics.

PRESS RELEASE: MEP GIVES DUDLEY THE CHANCE TO HAVE THEIR SAY ABOUT EU
PRESS RELEASE: MEP GIVES DUDLEY THE CHANCE TO HAVE THEIR SAY ABOUT EU
Independent West Midlands MEP Nikki Sinclaire will be sending her Have Your Say Battle Bus to Dudley High Street on 16th September 2011. Nikki’s highly successful campaign has been featured across the national press as she delivered 100,000 signatures to Downing Street on 8th September 2011. The Campaign for a Referendum on our continued membership of the European Union is carrying on collecting signatures across the region, as well as giving out information and advice about MEP’s and European Matters.
Nikki wants a referendum so everybody has a chance to register their say on whether we should be a part of the European Union, and the West Midlands has contributed over half of the 100,000 signature total.
Anyone under the age of 54 has never had the chance to speak about this issue, which Nikki believes is a breach of our democratic principles. The last time the UK held a referendum on the Common Market, as it was known then, was in 1975 – and even this was retrospective. Despite the fact that this campaign could leave Ms Sinclaire without a job, Nikki is passionate that people be given a voice in deciding whether it is right that:
· The UK contributes £48 million per day to the EU
· 75% of UK laws are decided by the EU yet the UK only has 72 MEPs in the Parliament out of a total of 736 MEPs
· Each day we buy £5 million more from EU countries than they buy from us.
Commenting on her “Have Your Say” campaign, Nikki Sinclaire said, ““European Law is rarely conducive or indeed relevant to British industry or infrastructure. The EU takes almost £50 million a day of our money for the privilege of belonging - money better spent in this country, where we need it most - on our hospitals, on our schools and in supporting our pensioners. When will the political elite realise that Britain cannot afford to remain in this Parliament?”
Like many towns across the UK, Dudley faces mounting cuts to public services. Nikki finds it a disgrace that even as the British public tightens its belt, the EU approves budget rises and other measures which will impact on the British pocket.
Nikki’s team advisers will be with her mobile surgery on Dudley High Street from 10am – 3pm to collect signatures for the campaign, hand out literature and to give out information and advice about Nikki and the European Union.

PRESS RELEASE: OFFICIAL - WALSALL COUNCIL BECOME FIRST COUNCIL TO STOP MEP MEETING HER CONSTITUENTS
PRESS RELEASE: OFFICIAL - WALSALL COUNCIL BECOME FIRST COUNCIL TO STOP MEP MEETING HER CONSTITUENTS
Walsall council have confirmed their decision to prevent an MEP from meeting her constituents in a meeting last night.
Independent MEP Nikki Sinclaire was denied permission for her Mobile Surgery to visit the town centre in Walsall back in July when the application was first made. The original planning committee meeting, which was held on July 20th, referred the issue to a Full Council meeting which was held last night (September 12th) in which the recommendation to deny Ms Sinclaire’s request to bring her vehicle into the town centre was upheld. Walsall have become the one and only council in the whole of the West Midlands to deny Ms Sinclaire a spot within the town centre to meet the people who voted to put her in her role.
Under council rules which were outlined in a letter from Chief Executive Paul Sheehan in July, the criteria for being allowed on the highway in Walsall is as follows, “Exhibitions and displays will only be permitted on the highway in the Borough where the organisation requesting the display is a charity, a local community group based in Walsall or a public service organisation”.
Prior to this communication, a member of Ms Sinclaire’s team in August 2010 emailed Walsall Council to find out where the Mobile Surgery could be parked to meet people in the town. Hazel Powell, Senior Licensing Officer, replied to the staff member stating “Unfortunately political parties are not permitted to the use the designated sites therefore we are unable to meet your request”.
Following a meeting of the licensing and safety committee on the 20th July, Ms Sinclaire was informed that her request, under the Highways Act 1980 Section 115 (E) Promotional Site Activity, had been denied as the mobile surgery did not meet the criteria determined by the council.
The West Midlands MEP is one of 6 MEP’s who covers the region which has 5.2 million constituents. In the past year, Nikki Sinclaire’s mobile surgery has virtually covered every town and city within the West Midlands region.
Nikki said of the decision, “In these times where people feel disconnected from their politicians, Walsall council’s decision not to allow my surgery into Walsall is an affront to democracy. It is also unfair that some of Walsall councillors use council property to run their surgeries.
The people of Walsall have a right to be able to meet me. I’m the only MEP with a mobile surgery, and Walsall Council are the only council who are opposed to my presence.”
ENDS.
