Day 3 - An Afternoon in Cork

Day Three of the trip saw the team travel from Limerick to the second City of Cork.

This journey however was also broken up by a visit to the famous town of Blarney, home to the Blarney stone.

Setting off quite early once again, the team found a large residential area early this morning and set about distributing a few thousand leaflets. Whilst we’ve been here, we have read a variety of newspapers and some are claiming that up to 20% of those eligible to vote are still undecided on the no or the yes, so getting literature out en masse is vitally important.

Then it was back in the vehicles for the trip to Blarney. Trips like this have been broken up by stopping and placing our corex boards in areas, or if we see a row of housing we deliver further leaflets.

Once we got to Blarney, I decided to give the No side a little extra help by kissing the blarney stone for good luck. Whilst we climbed the castle we got plenty of positive remarks about what was written on our tshirts and jackets.

Once again it was time to hit the road, and we headed towards our favourite destination so far – Cork. The town centre was buzzing when we arrived, and we managed to distribute many thousands of leaflets. We were expecting more people to say they were voting yes the more southernly we have got, but overwhelmingly everyone that we have spoken to has made their minds up of the no vote.

With the city centre being so busy, we decided to hand out balloons and ended up handing out hundreds of them, which were printed with a Vote No logo. Purple seemed to be the most popular colour on the day.

The team stay in Waterford tonight, whilst tomorrow they make the trip back to Dublin, via a few smaller towns on the day. It is vital for us to keep spreading the word of the no vote right until polling closes!
