MEP CALLS FOR COURT TO DISMISS NEW MERIDEN TRAVELLER APPEAL

MEP CALLS FOR COURT TO DISMISS NEW MERIDEN TRAVELLER APPEAL

25th March 2013

West Midlands MEP Nikki Sinclaire has slammed travellers for abuse of process as they lodge another appeal to stay on Greenbelt lane.
The travellers, who have a site at Meriden’s Eaves Green Lane, were told last year that they needed to move off the site by the 31st March 2013.
The developers on the Eaves Green Lane site have lodged an application to the high court for an extension to the injunction. The council have stated they will strongly resist the application.
The case will be heard tomorrow at 9.30am at Birmingham’s High Court.

Nikki Sinclaire MEP, who has supported the Meriden RAID group since the start of this saga over 1000 days ago, has spoken of her anger at this abuse of process,
“This is simply an abuse of publically funded legal aid.
The travellers have had their chance time after time in court to make their case, yet they’ve lost every time.
They now must accept the order of the courts as prescribed by law.
This is nothing more than an attempt to string out the inevitable”.
Ms Sinclaire has stood shoulder to shoulder with local residents in opposing the unlawful development of Greenbelt land, including joining the group at their protest site on numerous occasions, even through the night.
