MEP
CONGRATULATES MERIDEN RAID GROUP AS APPEALS THROWN OUT BY HIGH COURT
March
26th 2013
Nikki Sinclaire MEP has praised a group of protesters on the
day that the High Court has once again thrown out an appeal from travellers to
stay on Greenbelt land.
The travellers, who are situated on Eaves Green Lane,
arrived on the site in 2010. In March 2012, they were given until the 31st
March 2013 to leave the site. Due to unseasonal weather, the travellers have
been granted an extra 21 days to stay on the site, but the judge at the high court’s
today upheld the judgment which means they will have to be off the site by the
new amended date of April 21st 2013.
Nikki Sinclaire MEP said, “Although I am disappointed that
we have had to go through so many court appeals at the taxpayers’ expense, I am
delighted that the original judgment has been upheld.
The appeals process that has been used in this case is an abuse
of publically funded legal aid. The courts have spoken, and they must now
accept the order of the judge in this case
I am naturally delighted for the Meriden RAID group, who
have camped out in all conditions in protest to this illegal site
We must oppose illegal and inappropriate development of Greenbelt
land. This is middle England standing up for itself”.
The travellers have been given until May to restore the
ground to its original condition.
