Meriden Traveller Public Enquiry starts today

West Midlands MEP Nikki Sinclaire has re-affirmed her support for Meriden
protestors ahead of a public enquiry to be held this week.

Meriden Residents say they are fully prepared for a forthcoming Public
Inquiry which seeks to examine whether travellers should be allowed to
return to land they own in Meriden which adjoins land they illegally
occupied for three years

The appeal has been branded a waste of public money by residents group RAID
who manned a 24 hour protest vigil for three years and won 20 planning and
legal victories which eventually saw the travellers leave their illegal
site on the 21st of April 2013.

Nikki Sinclaire MEP, We Demand a Referendum Now MEP for the West Midlands,
has stood shoulder to shoulder with Meriden residents throughout their
campaign and is slamming the waste of tax payers money in holding a public
enquiry on the subject,

Ms Sinclaire said,

“Residents in Meriden have fought long and hard to save the Green Belt. On
the way they have lost loved ones, or faced real pressure but they have
stood up to pressures and on the day that this land became empty, I felt an
incredible pride for the Meriden residents that I now consider my friends.

Meriden residents have had to endure yet another gruelling fundraising
marathon to raise £20,000 to pay for barristers and Planning Consultancy
fees and prepare their defence for the forthcoming inquiry.

I continue to stand with these local residents in standing up for the Green
Belt. It is preposterous that this is even being considered.

The travellers had previously attempted to sell the site to residents who
refused to pay the 'extortionate asking price' of £200,000 for a
agricultural land worth an estimated £59,000

Mr David McGrath, spokesperson for Meriden RAID, and Noah Burton are set to
give evidence at the Inquiry next week

The five day Public Inquiry will be held on the 8th and 9th of August and
also the 13th, 14th and 15th of August and will be held at the Heart of England social club.
