Support your local team this weekend!

West Midlands MEP Nikki Sinclaire is calling on local football fans to show their support for Non-League day this weekend.

The MEP herself will catch a match at Worcester City FC, a club that she has sponsored and offered support to for a number of years.

Nikki has been a champion of West Midlands football, and hopes fellow football fans will back the Non-League Day initiative.

The We Demand a Referendum Now MEP said,

“While the media was churning out headlines about Gareth Bale’s football transfer fee, it’s easy to forget some of the team that are the cornerstone to football in this country.

Non-League day is a chance to show support to lower league and grassroots clubs. This might not be the perceived glamour of the Premier League, but what you get is matches played with heart and games of a very good standard.

This weekend I will be watching Worcester City Football Club, but there are a wealth of teams in the West Midlands this weekend that would really appreciate the extra support. People might even discover their new second team!

Football is incredibly important as it is a part of the fabric of our society, and we must encourage clubs at every level. Let us celebrate and promote the diversity of our beautiful game”.

Non-League day first began in 2010. It has now grown to become an annual part of the football calendar, backed by Premier League and Football League clubs, MPs, celebrities, media organisations, charities and most importantly the non-league clubs themselves and the fans that decide to turn up on the day.

Always scheduled to coincide with an international break, Non-League Day gives fans across the country the chance to see what's going on at a club that might be on their doorstep which they may be unfamiliar with or even knew existed.
