I am very sad to learn of the passing of Chaudhry
Noor Hussain, one of the pioneer leaders of the Kashmir freedom
movement, who died on Sunday. He had been involved in the struggle of the Kashmiri people for national self-determination
even before 1947.
The government of Jammu and Kashmir has declared a three day period of national mourning.
He was the father of my friend and fellow human
rights defender Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, himself a former
Prime Minister of Kashmir, and an inspiration to me in my work.
