Nikki Sinclaire MEP says isn't it about time the EU got real on Turkey?

Thank you Mr President,

Well I’ve heard of the carrot and stick approach, but I’ve never heard of the carrot and carrot approach – and that seems to be the EUs relationship with Turkey, it seems to give give give.

Can I remind this institution that the Cypriots held the presidency in the latter part of 2012 and Turkey, point blank, refused to actually have anything to do with them? They were a candidate country. If a candidate country does not want anything to do with its presidency, then surely the candidate should be ceased there and then.

The people of Cyprus are held hostage by the invaders and occupiers of Northern Cyprus. The people of Morphou last November, with myself, attempted to visit their town, and were refused free access to their own town by the Turkish authorities. The people of Kyrenia wish to celebrate a religious service in their town, over the upcoming Easter. They have been refused by the Turkish authorities.

Baroness Ashton is her usual useful useless self, and is unable to help. Isn’t it about time we got real on Turkey?
